Abolition in Oklahoma and Missouri

March 2020

In mid-February we attended an abolitionist rally in Oklahoma. For the third year, Senator Joseph Silk has introduced a bill (SB13) to abolish abortion in the state.

There was about 2000 abolitionists attending the rally, about 1500 more than last year. And it was pretty chilly outside, maybe 35-40F with a cold north wind. After the rally, we all headed inside. There was one group of protesters, 18 total (and most or all were from out-of-state). Extra State Troopers were sent to protect the pro-abortionists.

As we walked to the Senate Gallery, we sang some psalms, hymns, and songs. At one point, while we were singing psalms on the third floor, one of the pro-abortion protesters next to us attempted to play her ‘music’ out loud and was trying to get a man on the first floor to sing to it. She turned it off after a little while. The women in red are dressed as some characters in The Handmaid’s Tale, a perverted fictional story.

The Senate Gallery was full, with only standing room left, and some people stood in the hallway outside. The Senate adjourned after a short session.

At about 3pm, we headed out to the van, ate a late lunch, and began the drive home.

On February 19th, we went to our abolitionist rally in Jefferson City. Representative Mike Moon sponsored the Missouri abolition bill, HB2285.

Most of the abolitionists at the rally (between 100 and 150 total) were from Missouri. There was one small group of 6-8 protesters. Their shirts said something like ‘teenagers advocating for safe healthcare’. Murdering unborn babies is definitely not real healthcare!

Rusty Thomas (a speaker-from Operation Save America) was surprised to see the Bible verses on the arches around the rotunda. He said, “This is amazing! Even the rocks are crying out!”

If you live in Missouri, call and ask your Representative to co-sponsor this bill (HB2285). As of March 4th, 2020, we have 5 co-sponsors.

“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land… ~Deuteronomy 30:15-20

Other States that have abolition bills: Washington State has HB2154, Alaska has HB178, and Kansas also has an abolition bill. Indiana’s HB1089 was denied a hearing, and Idaho has the Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act, which was denied a committee assignment. Also, the Texas abolition bill, HB896, was denied a vote during the last legislative season, but Rep. Tony Tinderholt has committed to re-running the bill in 2021 when the legislature reconvenes.
