Earlier this year, we did a ‘Country of the Month’ night for Antarctica. Several people prepared something special or ‘Antarctican’ for the meal, which included Pemmican, Sledge Biscuits, Frozen Fruit, Carob Pemmican Balls, Ice Cream, Shrimp Cocktail, Frozen Peanut Butter and Jam Sandwiches, and more! Someone had suggested that everyone came dressed up in Antarctican Attire… White, Blue, Gray… well, only a few people dressed up. Oh well. After playing a bit of ‘Capture the Flag’, we did the presentations. Several people got up to share what they had learned about the continent, its history, flora and fauna, etc., It was a very fun and informative night.
Here are some pictures from presentations-
I’ve been reading Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage – it’s a very interesting book about Sir Ernest Shackleton and his voyage to Antarctica, or rather, near Antarctica. After reading it, I’ve decided that it was the providence of God that Shackleton and his men survived. You’ll have to read the story yourself, but here are some pictures of Antarctica (no, I’ve never been there, but it certainly seems like an interesting place!):
